I Had a Weird Tuesday. But My Brows Look Great.

I miss writing about my days or trips, like a public journal. I am guilty of oversharing my life at times but while I am guilty of it, I am also unapologetic of it. I enjoy it. I enjoy making people laugh at the weird things that happen to me. I enjoy sharing my days, good or bad, so people know they’re not alone in situations.

So let me tell you about my Tuesday.

[I realize today is Thursday when I am posting this]

Now most days I go to work between 6:00 and 6:30 am, so I can leave by about 2:30 or so. I enjoy my schedule. Other days, because of meetings or classes, I may have to adjust my hours so I get my 8 hours and not get overtime.

This particular day I decided to go to work around 7:00 am because I had later meetings that day. I woke up at my usual time though so I could take a shower, wash my hair, and make myself look nice because not only was I doing interviews with my colleagues but I was also going to be interviewed for school. Goal was to leave by 6:30 am.

I left around 6:34 if I recall. Not too bad considering I have very long hair now, I curled it, and did a full face of makeup.

Well, I got on the freeway and it was a parking lot. I checked Google maps and there was a bad accident a few miles up the road. I thought maybe I’d stop at Starbucks, pick up a tea, and then maybe it would clear up in those few minutes.

Wrong. It was even worse. I was tempted to put my car in park a few times. I eventually got to work and clocked in at 7:39 am. Go me.

Our interviews started around 10:30 am, with a meeting getting cancelled prior to that. We gave ourselves 2 hours to do 4 interviews. We did 2 interviews in 2 hours. By then I had to leave to go to my next appointment. I was annoyed by this, as great as our interviewees were, because that meant I wouldn’t meet the next two.

As the educator it’s important to me to meet and interview them because I’m with them the first few months of their training, where I can really see the good and bad parts of an individual, you know?

I also didn’t have time to eat lunch.

My next appointment was actually for me to take a critical thinking test for potentially grad school as well as an interview with faculty. When I get there, the girl at the front desk seemed a bit confused I was there. She asked me to wait while she found the person in charge of scheduling these appointments.

Apparently the poor girl never confirmed my appointment with the faculty and now there was no one to interview me. I was at least able to take the test but would have to follow up on the interview.

p.s I did good on my test. Yay.

Well. After my morning and early afternoon of rushing and being delayed, I decided I was done with work. I went to my parents house and made a quick lunch.

My plan was to go grocery shopping and then immediately go to get my eyebrows microbladed (yeah!). Well, I suddenly had 3 hours to spare on a hot day. Luckily, the girl doing my brows had an early opening and I was able to see her right away.

I LOVE my new eyebrows.

Afterwards, I went shopping and couldn’t seem to concentrate. I had to keep going back and forth between aisles. Isn’t that irritating? Because you know it’s your own dang fault.

While I was in line to check out, I then dropped a huge bottle of kombucha and it.spilled.everywhere.

Luckily the girl checking me out was so nice and cleaned it up immediately and wouldn’t even let me pay for it. Thank you kind woman at Sprouts.

I left and then sent a text message to my mom to pray for me as I drove home after the day I’d been having. Who knows what would happen to me on the road during rush hour…

I then went home. And went to bed.

Just kidding. I made a yummy dinner and ate it outside with my husband. After I found out he had In-N-Out for dinner…

That was my Tuesday.

xo, Briana

p.s. if you want info the microblading experience, let me know ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m happy to share!

What’s In My Gym Bag! & Hello, Life! Plus A Story About Pre-Workout…

Heya guys!

So if you follow me on Instagram and/or Twitter (@tidibitsofbriana) then you’ll know that I was recently in Hawaii for a few days. My cousin got married there and lucky me, I was a bridesmaid as well as her MUA! It was a quick trip but of course fun! I missed my hubby since he couldn’t come, but it was fun to hang out with some awesome girls, all of whom I miss a lot! Then once I got home, it was time for friends and family’s graduations, as well as spending lost time with my honey.

Wedding day!

IMG_5232My beautiful cousin who was a beautiful bride! While I would like to take some credit, since I did her makeup, she was absolutely glowing from within and her inner beauty shown through, as well as her love for her groom!

Shore of Waikiki

Anyhow, that’s just a quick “why I haven’t blogged in two weeks!”

I started going back to the gym today and with that I thought I’d share with you what I take with me to the gym! I just got this new gym bag and I loooove it. I had a previous bag, from Target, but I wasn’t completely in love with it. But my cousin had this in Hawaii and I when I first saw it and held it, I knew I wanted one of my own.. And lucky me, it’s from Fabletics! I have been going on a Fabletics binge when it comes to capris and leggings, but now this bag…

It’s pretty slouchy and doesn’t have much to hold it up with, but I like that I can just throw my stuff in but it’s still easy to find inside.

The sides have buckles if you want to make your bag “bigger” in that you allow more wiggle room. Right now I keep them buckled so I don’t have that open to throw more stuff in. Haha.
It has both an adjustable shoulder strap and double handles. The material is extremely soft on the inside, like jersey knit or something.

It has a large front pocket that has a zip. This is where I like to keep my lock, phone, and keys.

Open back mesh pocket, good for chap stick or something you don’t mind people seeing.

It has a wide opening with a large zipper, making it easy to see inside.

Now let’s see what I do keep in there!

My basic gym stuff! I use a wash cloth rather than a towel because let’s be honest… I just don’t sweat enough to require a larger towel, no matter how hard I run or how hard I workout. And if I need to wipe someone else’s sweat off a machine (ew), I get some paper towels and cleaner.

Of course I use a lock, too! Then my gloves which are nice and grippy but aren’t too stiff. I found mine for really inexpensive at Marshall’s. If I listen to music, I like my shuffle because it’s small and I can clip it to my clothes, rather than have some annoying arm band on. My watch is a Ripcurl watch that is waterproof and because of the material (rubber-like), it doesn’t slide around on my wrist.

Finally, my new favorite water bottle. Costco had a good deal on these, so hubs and I got a set of them. They’re awesome because they literally keep your drink cold for hours. Ice does NOT melt, even after like 5-6 hours. I don’t know how it works, but it does. It holds something like 20-22 oz of water, so I drink about 3 of these a day for my daily intake, sometimes more.

Slippers if I wanna shower and of course a brush for all my hair! haha

Everything you see here I keep in a small cosmetics bag, aside from the body. The cap on that is loose so it goes in it’s own separate pocket.

But aside from that, which I use for obvious reasons, I like to have hand sanitizer, dry shampoo, and body wash if I shower. Then some powder with a brush if I wore makeup and want a quick touch up, as well as regular ol’ chapstick. Then the usual girly things…

Finally, I like to keep gum on hand because it helps my mouth from getting dry and something about chewing gum while running or exercising is just nice.

What I forgot to include were some granola bars I might eat before or after a workout, then of course a protein powder with a blender type bottle. You know, those bottles with the metal spiral thingy that sounds so funny but makes you feel like a bartender.

Speaking of protein powder and such… I tried my first pre-workout drink today.

Never, ever again. At least not the brand I tried…

I wanted to try a pre-workout to see if I helped me work harder or anything, so I mixed the powder with my water when I left my house and drank it on my way, about a 20 minute drive. I figured that would give it time to kick in so by the time I arrived, I’d be ready to go.

On the way down, I noticed my cheeks felt warm, a little tingly and itchy. I didn’t think much of it until I got to the gym when the sensation went to my feet and even my ears, followed by my chest. My feet felt it more than any other area. I thought perhaps I might be having an allergic reaction but I didn’t have hives and my throat felt fine. The feeling slowly went away but was still there a little. I began to feel a little anxious though, almost jittery. I went inside, put my stuff in my locker then started my usual 20 minute run. Immediately the feeling came back even stronger on my chest, cheeks, ears, but especially my feet. After 5 minutes I couldn’t handle it. I slowed the treadmill, jumped off before it even stopped, and then went straight to my locker, grabbed my phone, and Googled “itchy feeling from pre workout” and found out that what I was experiencing was my capillaries and histamine reacting to the niacin and beta alanine in the pre workout.

I determined I was not having an allergic reaction (no epinephrine or benadryl required), but I was still very uncomfortable. I felt even more anxious and jittery, almost jumpy. My skin felt felt like it was crawling. I tried to continue my workout with the stair master and then some weights, but after 20 minutes I couldn’t handle it. I left and tried to just calm down with some food.

The flushed feeling and jittery-ness finally went away after 3-4 hours but ooh I hated it.

That was my experience with pre workout and that’s what I take with me in my gym bag. Ha.

I hope you enjoyed the post and story!

Thanks for sticking with me guys, even though I’ve been so absent lately.

Positive Vibes

Sometimes I wake up on the wrong side of the bed, figuratively of course. But none the less, I’m put in a mood thatย is less then cheery. I can joke and laugh but then I’m still feeling moody. Today, for example, I’m just feeling kind of “meh” and it’s annoying me. I can’t snap out of it.

I’ve been having difficulty sleeping for a while now, but that’s also normal for me. I’ve simply come to terms that I’m just a bad sleeper. I also have an annoying contact lens and my glasses are at home. I’m also feeling hangry (hungry+angry). And my hair has been bugging me this week, almost to the point where I contemplated cutting some of it off. But I’m not. I know I’ll regret it. Like I always do. But you know what I mean about the hair, right? Ugh. Some days…

So can you tell I’m in an irritated mood?

A few things I might try to help myself feel better includes a) eat something, b) put on fun lipstick (currently wearing a fun coral pink now), c) list a few things that make me happy. I need positive vibes.

So let’s do it.

1) My husband. That’s a given though. But this week he’s been especially awesome. The other day he surprised me with a brand new backpacking pack. I’m so excited to use it and can’t wait to go on a trip. Even just thinking about it now makes me so happy.

Screen Shot 2015-03-24 at 10.53.52 AM

That there is my new backpack. It’s a Gregory Deva 70, the 2015 model. I took a screen shot of it from the Gregory website because the picture I have makes it look sad since it’s empty. Haha.

And that is my handsome hubby all dressed up for his sister’s wedding. and of course me in my bridesmaid dress ๐Ÿ˜‰ I loved getting my hair done that day. And we couldn’t help but sneak a few kisses during the wedding. Haha. We’re no longer the new newlywed’s in the family.

2) The beach. We spent two days at the beach this past weekend and it was marvelous. So relaxing. We also got some awesome tans.

This picture was last October but the scene was the same, even the bikini.

3) Guilty pleasure music.

This weeks (or month’s) playlist includes Nick Jonas, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry.

4) Family. Tonight we’re celebrating my oldest brother’s birthday and also we’ll be missing one sibling, I’m looking forward to quality time with my family.

I love them.

5) Milo. Pets really know when you’re emotional or something. They just get it. He’s been attentive to me today and I totally appreciate his puppy dog eyes and they way they look at me.

How cute is he?

6) Bonus…

you guys!

I was nervous about my blog post last week, my #DearMe post. But some of you wrote me private messages and left sweet comments that made me feel so good. I love you guys.

And now I feel better. Seeee how that works?

If you’re ever feeling blah, try writing down a few things that make you happy!

In honor of International Women’s Day (March 8), YouTube launched a campaign called “#DearMe” where all women and girls, or anyone really, were invited to share open letters that they would write to their younger selves. And it could be on anything, from body image to love to self-confidence, etc.

I read a few letters and watched a few videos myself. And I suppose I’ll go ahead and share my own #DearMe letter, going back to my 15/16-year old self. I could probably go through my old journals and go from there, but for now, I’ll just go off the top of my head.

Oh boy. Here we go.

Dear Me,

Here you are, 15 or maybe 16 years old. But it’s sophomore year, the year where things change for you and will forever shape you. You have thin brows because you over plucked; you want to fit in and in a lot of ways you do, but inside you feel so insecure. But that’s okay. I think all kids that age do. You’re not alone. There’s a couple of things I want to tell you, from my 26-year old perspective. That’s right, we’re 26 now. And we’re doing pretty good and feeling pretty happy, too. Things haven’t exactly turned out the way you might expect them to, but it’s even better than you could have expected. More on that later.Right now, I want to give you some advice and also pick at our brain a little. Excuse my grammar.

I’ll try to make this short, but we’ll see how it goes.

First of all, don’t be ashamed of how you do in school. Yeah, you passed all of your classes with average grades and learned things. Mostly A’s and B’s with one C thrown in. Thanks Mr. H and good ol’ geometry. But maybe try a little harder. You can push yourself and get great results. Don’t just get by because you’d rather let people think you don’t have to study to get good grades or because you’d rather hang out with your siblings and their friends. Trust me, you are going to need those studying skills in college! And don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re struggling with something.

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Go ahead and try out for choir. Heck, you know they took just about anyone. And don’t be ashamed to hide your voice just because one guy laughed when he asked you to sing a song after you mentioned you were thinking choir. He didn’t mean to make you feel bad. He just has bad people skills. and yes, sports are fun! They’re not a burden. They’re not something to torture you with.

Be open with your friends, as hard as it is. Sometimes the people that are the meanest are the closest to you. You need to be open with them and let them know when they hurt you. Maybe they need someone to talk to, because things are hard for them and the only way they cope is to make others feel bad. There are other girls out there that will be your friend because they want to be your friend, not because you’re someone they can simply vent to and get upset with over any little thing to let their own frustrations out. But be there for them anyway. They need you.

You keep listening to music that makes you feel unhappy. You keep thinking it’s making you feel better by their words. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They feel your angst, the fact that your parents misunderstand you and smother you. But in reality, it’s those words that put those thoughts in your head. It’s not true, sweetie. You have so much to be thankful for. Don’t listen to tough and hard music. It might make you look tough on the outside, but on the inside, you know you’re hurting and want to ask for help but your pride isn’t letting you. Just let it go and tell someone you’re struggling. It’s okay to feel upset. It’s okay to ask for help. You’re not bothering anyone. In fact, the ones close to you want to help; stop pushing them away.

IMG_4224Oh yeah, the punk/rock days. You wore dark clothes and didn’t want your picture to be taken. And if you did have you picture taken, you never gave a real smile, if you smiled at all. You have a beautiful smile my dear. Show it.

Then here’s the big thing. Boys.

They’ll get ya in trouble, I tell ya. And by trouble, I mean mess with your head. Oh, how they do.

You started out with a sweet boyfriend the beginning of sophomore year. He was nice to you and everything, but let’s be real. His kisses were mediocre and after your first kiss, you knew it was all downhill. Then you find out later on he cheated on you, but you only find out after after you break up. You broke up with him because you knew it wasn’t going anywhere. The feelings were gone. Then suddenly, a senior who is the brother of one of your girlfriends starts paying attention you. You were both on ASB (Associated Student Body) and so you had to see each other about once a week. Your school is small and so all of the classes are close together. It’s not uncommon for seniors to be friends with sophomores or even freshmen, but anyway.

By the way, don’t bother with ASB. You only did it because you thought it might help you in college, but guess what? You’re going to save money through community college, honey. Oh yeah!

Moving on.

You liked the attention he gave you. It made you feel happy to know a senior might like you. You, the girl who never felt pretty even though there were boys who had crushes on you even though they never talked to you. Maybe it was your home school image that made you feel so insecure about boys. I know you’re uncomfortable with your social skills, but don’t worry; you mature and grow up just fine.

You’ve always been a reader. You loved fantasy; it took you places you could only dream about. Don’t be ashamed of the fact that you love to read. It helped shape you when you were growing up and being home-schooled. There is no normal. It’s okay!

The attention he’s giving you, while it lasted for months, isn’t go anywhere. He makes you promises but tells you to keep them all a secret, “until the time is right.” You never get involved with him physically, but emotionally you are so attached. He tells you not to tell anyone about your “secret relationship.” You’ll find out soon enough he’s been doing the same to two of your other girlfriends. When you find this out, you’re going to get angry. You’re going to be upset and do things to yourself you might regret. You’ll tell your family it’s just school that is bothering you because you never told any of them about him, except your sister who was working as an office assistant. They knew all the gossip among the students.

I wish you had listened to your warning signs but you know what? Out of all crap he’s going to put you through and all the sleepless nights he’ll cause (maybe this is where you anxiety was triggered. But don’t worry, you’ll eventually learn to control it. Mostly. anyway), you’re going to come out stronger and happier.

Once he figures out what he’s done to you, he’ll give you a crap excuse and you buy it. But you swear you’re never going to let another boy do to that to you again. and you won’t. Because not even a week after this goes down, you’re going to “meet” your future husband. You’ll meet and reminisce about things, ask about where he plans to go to college, and in the end, you’ll exchange numbers. Three weeks later, on May 27, he’s going to tap you on the shoulder before you go back inside your house to ask if you’ll be his girlfriend. Then about 8 years and 2 weeks later, he’s going to propose. You won’t see it coming, by the way. Then a year and one month later, he’ll become your husband.

That’s right, your husband. He’s the brother of your sisters friend. I won’t go into too much detail but I’ll just say for you, it’s all a fairytale. And right now, you are living very happily ever after. In fact, he’s cuddled up in bed next to you. He’s so cute.

I think what I want you to learn and take away are these few things:

Push yourself. You’ll be surprised at how smart and talented you really are when you just give your all.

Try new things! Don’t worry about what other people think!

Be yourself and stick up for yourself.

Listen to your heart.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’ll all work out!

Ask for help when you need it.

Finally, don’t give up. You might be hurt but something better is out there for you.

Well, we’re getting to end here but before I go, I want to say just a few more things.

Thanks for hanging out with everybody. You were never picky about who you ate lunch with; don’t stop that. You don’t belong to a cliche or an image.

Listen to happy music once and a while. That “punk” rock is fun to listen to, but only if you’re NOT upset. It makes you feel and see things that aren’t even there. Your parents love you and aren’t trying to hold you back. Same with your siblings. They’re all protective of you and maybe know a thing or two. Or three. Tell them all you love them, too. It’s so important for people to know that and feel it, too.

Spend some time with your grandma’s. They love you so much and want to be a part of your life.

Finally, stop plucking your eyebrows and ease up on the eyeliner.

Eh, you’ll figure it out eventually, thanks to YouTube.

Well, self, until next time.

xo, Briana

p.s. That same boy that broke your heart and strung it along to all those months? He’ll regret it; trust me. He’ll tell you later on when he realizes he’s forever lost you to your now husband.

How To Look Awake With Minimal Product

There are some days where you may be in a hurry or there isn’t a need for too much makeup. Those also may be the days you’re rather tired and just need to look alive awake. Here’s what I use to look mildly refreshed and put together.

This is also the same look I put together when I have time (what’s that?) to get ready for clinical.

This is how I look when I wake up. Messy braid, glasses, dark circles, etc.

I’ll tell you a secret. My left eye is slightly higher than my right eye. It’s more noticeable in this picture then previous ones I’ve shown, due to the angle I shot it at. Even my fiance didn’t notice it until just recently! Don’t know if that’s a good thing or not… Anyhow, it usually doesn’t bother me because it’s not always so apparent. But, uh, it’s very apparent here. Hmm…

Okay, now I’m really self-conscious. Moving on!

Hair products

Hair products

If I don’t shower beforehand, I’ll use a bit of dry shampoo to get rid of the oils in my hair and also add a little texture. Batiste is the best dry shampoo I’ve found. I actually bought mine at Marshall’s, but I’ve always seen it at Walgreens and Ulta. I use the one for brown hair (it has a tint to it).

Some days I’ll put my hair up in a high ponytail but because I was getting ready for my clinical shift I had to wear a bun, in which I used a “bun maker” by Conair. That little donut looking thing is a life saver, I tell you what! I can wear it all day and my scalp doesn’t feel like falling off of my head by the end of a shift. I keep i in place with another ponytail holder and maybe a few pins. I then hairspray it all together for extra hold and to keep any flyways from flying. Ha.

Le makeup!

Le makeup!

That particular day I felt like wearing foundation, but sometimes I’ll wear a BB cream if I am really in a hurry. In that case, I’ll usually throw on some BB cream, powder, mascara, and eyeliner. But again, I had some time that morning so I did a bit more, i.e. blush, bronzer, 1 eyeshadow, concealer….

Here’s the finished look!

Ah, much better! I look awake but not overdone with makeup.

And here’s what the bun looks like from behind.

It’s like a donut of hair on my head! I already had my scrubs on, since putting them on with a bun already in place is kiiiind of difficult.

So that’s it!

Hope you enjoyed ๐Ÿ™‚

p.s. I’m so glad it’s Saturday morning. I got more than 5 hours of sleep! And I woke up after the sunrise. Ah, luxury…

‘Murica! An OOTD

Seeing as how tomorrow is the blessed 4th of July aka Independence Day, I thought I’d get a little festive!

I recently bought this fantastic t-shirt at Cotton On (which happens to be Australian) and also painted my nails to be a little patriotic.

"Freedom Forever"

“Freedom Forever”

I mean, how awesome and majestic is this shirt?

I’m being completely serious by the way. I totally love this. It makes me feel like I need to listen to Journey or Bon Jovi or something like that.

Last year I did a (poor) nail art design but this year I thought I’d keep it simple.

I also thought I’d show my makeup but again, you can’t hardly tell… Thanks camera! Haha. I am also slightly out of focus on my right eye… I did my hair up in a pony tail for two reasons.

1) My hair is dirty
2) It’s hot.

Pretty simple, right?

and a good ol’ classic (dirty) mirror shot. And no, I’m not flexing my calf muscle there. That’s a streak on the mirror that is probably from my niece after she touched it…

Happy 4th of July everyone! Have fun celebrating and be safe!

The Differences Between My Fiance’ & I

Inspired by Ree Drummond’s most recent post on her blog, I thought it would be fun to do something similar, pointing out the differences between my future husband (um, what?) and I. Let’s begin.

Back in Alaska last summer.

Back in Alaska last summer.

1) He’s a December baby.
I’m a November baby. Just FYI.

2) He dislikes mushrooms, raw onions, garlic, and fresh tomatoes.
Life would be great if I could incorporate all of the above into my daily diet.

3) He thinks shopping at Home Depot and buying every single tool possible is the best!
I could easily spend hours in Sephora and/or Ulta. Not that I have, but you know, in my dreams…

4) He played nearly all of the sports in high school.
I was a class officer and was in the bell choir.

5) He’s pretty much traveled all over the world.
I.. have not.

6) He went to fire academy.
I am currently in nursing school.

7) He has a twin sister!
I don’t. Ha.

9) He loves to surf.
I like to lay on the beach. And read. And take pictures.

10) He likes chicken tacos.I like beef tacos.

11) He likes the color green.
I like the color red.

12) He has too much energy to sit down and read. He has to always be moving!
I will stay up until the wee hours of the morning reading. I am a sloth.

13) He has nearly perfect vision.
I’ve worn corrective lenses since I was 12.

14) He grew up listening to old country.
I grew up with the likes of Heart and Led Zeppelin. Amen.

A List For Friday

1) I finished my first year of nursing school on Wednesday at approximately 2:23 pm. I know because I time myself on my tests because I’m usually the first one done for pretty much every test or quiz. Our final, which consisted of 60 questions, started at 2:00 and I was done in 23 minutes.

I am happy to say this first year of nursing school was a success! Just one more year to go! Went to the pinning ceremony last night with some fellow classmates and I think nearly all of us got teary eyed for the new graduates and ourselves for the near future. Haha.

2) My room is a wreck. So I’m blogging instead of cleaning. Maybe if I turn around everything will be magically put away, dusted, and organized! ….I just checked. It didn’t work.

3) My car is a wreck. So I’m blogging instead of cleaning it. But it’s June Gloom outside, so I shall wait on cleaning it… Maybe.

$) Milo is a lazy bum who hides packages of Ritz crackers in the couch and in my bed.

But he's so cute!

But he’s so cute!

d) I need blogging/video inspirations. Help me?

z) My brother and his girlfriend are on an awesome roadtrip to the Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington. They are blogging about it here! So be sure to check it out! They left last Sunday from San Diego and are driving all the up for the festival then plan on taking their time home, with surfboards of course ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so jealous of them…

8) Monday is the boy and my 8th anniversary. Can you believe that? So weird. But I think I’ll keep him.

q) I shattered my iPhone last week, did I tell you that? It was a sad, sad day….

photoIt happened in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Isn’t there a song about that?

285) In reaction to the phone dropping (and getting it replaced with another basic iPhone 4 thanks to an eligible upgrade) I bough a Lifeproof case! It’s very bright and waterproof. And shock proof. And dirt proof. And kid proof.

so bright!

so bright!

ii) I need to clean my room. And go to Target.

Later y’all! Have a wonderful and long weekend!

Out With The Old…

…and no new for me!

Today, I did something that was pretty hard to do.

I gathered up old, unused makeup and put in a plastic bag to be thrown away.

IMG_9193Do you see all of that?

That’s what I gathered up. Yes, it’s alot. And to be honest, that made up a majority of my collection. I still have plenty ofย eye shadowย palettes, a good selection of mascaras, and a few foundations I know I like. and of course plenty of lip products. I really only use a few blushes, powders, concealers, and whatnot.

But what I chose to throw away was broken down into three categories.

1) Old
2) Haven’t used it in more than x amount of time
3) I really dislike it

Some things were pretty easy to pick out, like mascara I couldn’t stand or wasn’t too impressed with; cheap foundation that was terrible on my skin; blush that didn’t even show up, and so on. But some things were more difficult to pick out, such as a few foundations.

I’m getting rid of a L’oreal True Match Lumi foundation and a Revlon Colorstay foundation. I’ve triedย so hardย to like them both, but I know that at the end of the day (literally), I really dislike how it looks on my skin. It’s sad because I bought them based on a lot of reviews I read or videos I saw on YouTube. The hardest part about throwing all of this away though?

The amount of money I know I spent on all of it.

At least about 95% of the makeup was drugstore. So it’s not thaaaaat bad. Haha. I also gave my mom a few of the mascaras to try out. Maybe they’ll do good things for her!

But I know this is a good lesson for me. I have chosen to keep what I know I love and what I know I’ll use. I’m hoping that from now on, I’ll only buy what I need and not what I want. That’s the one good thing about trying so many different things this last year: I know what I like! Haha ๐Ÿ˜‰ Really, most of the makeup I’ve throwing away (I hate saying that) is stuff I just haven’t used. I’m the type of person that when I really like something, I stick to it and don’t really want to veer off from it, even though I tend to get things just to try. and that’s the hard part: the impulsivity of wanting to try more. However, requires money. Money of which I do not have to spend on makeup.

Today I did buy on new thing (Garnier BB cream for combo-oily skin), but I did use a coupon… Haha. I also have only been getting things when it’s on sale, to save any little bit I can.

But I challenge you to look at your stuff (not just makeup) and try to do a little spring cleaning. It’s hard at first, but in the end, you’ll feel good about what you did. And you don’t even have to throw it away! You can donate it! although like I said, most of the stuff I chose is old, so I have to throw it away. Ha.

well, I hope you enjoyed this post!

Until next time…

Get To Know Me! The Beauty Blogger Tag

I know this blog started out to showcase my very amateur photography 4 years ago (has it been that long?) but the last year and a half, it has transformed into a slightly more beauty-focused blog, although I do throw in my random life things, such as school, boyfriend, family, and travel.

This morning while drinking my usual cup of coffee with sugar and half&half, I was reading one of my favorite bloggers/YouTubers Emily. I find her to be so honest and down to earth. I think I would be star stuck if I ever got a chance to meet her! Come to California Emily! You’ll love our weather ๐Ÿ˜‰ Well anyway, she had this beauty tag on her blog and I thought it’d be fun to do myself. Enjoy!

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?
Um…. Well, it’s not quite straight but it’s not curly nor wavy really. It’s more of a fluffy straight. When it air drys, it will appear straight but the layers to wave ever so slightly, but in a fluffy fashion. I get that from my mama!
2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?
About 90% of the time I do it myself. And yes, I have had terrible experiences at home! Anyone remember the ombre?! I fixed it, but it was terrible… I looked likeย  a tiger, let’s just say that! Although the last two times I’ve had my hair colored, it’s been at the salon. I may actually darken my current highlights a bit. The top is just a tad too bright for me. What do you think?
3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?
My hair is usually in a bun or down, but I do like the versatility long hair has to offer. For my clothes, it all depends on my mood, but I’m usually in jeans with some type of casual but “cute” top. I like to keep things comfy. My makeup hardly ever changes. Haha. I always due a neutral smokey eye with minimal lip color. I love me some neutrals!
4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?
I do it myself a lot of the time, especially a manicure. I don’t see the point of paying 15+ dollars when I can paint them myself for less than $5. Although I do enjoy a pedicure once in a while! It’s a nice treat for me.
5. How often do you change your nail polish?
My toes I change about every 2-3 weeks. My nails (when I can wear them) about once a week or so.
6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?
All year long! I change my nails more frequently though cause of the chipping factor.
7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?
I’d say 15-20 minutes if I’m doing everything, which according to the boyfriend is way too long. And that’s NOT including my hair! Haha! If I’m in a hurry, I can do it in less than 5 though!
8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?
Face. Like Emily said, once I feel like my face is set, my eyes can go. It’s the foundation (duh) of my makeup, so I like to set that first.
9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?
Well this last year I’ve definitely been a collector! Haha. Can anyone say mascara hoarder? Hello, my name is Briana and I am addicted to neutral eyeshadows! Haha. But I do use most of it! I do! The one thing I tend to collect dust on is the foundation because once I find one I really like (Covergirl 3-in-1 right now!), I will only reach for that.
10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?
Never. That’s all.
11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?
Nope. In fact, I only wear a full face about two times a week now. School has gotten me back to going au naturale. It’s just too much work and honestly, nobody cares but me. LOL.
12. Do you wear makeup when you’re home alone or with family?
Sometimes. When I’m home alone and I don’t have a lot to study, I’ll experiment and just play with my makeup. I love playing with my makeup like I’m a kid again ๐Ÿ™‚ Does anyone still do that? Or is that just me?
13. Will you leave the house without makeup?
Yes. Most days I do. Haha. Although I’ll at least throw on some mascara and eyeliner so as not to look sick or haggard. Haha.
14. How many high-end products do you have?
As you know, Urban Decay has my heart when it comes to eyeshadows. Ahh… I have one MAC foundation and concealer, and a few other high-end eyeshadow palettes, as well as mascaras. Otherwise, it’s all drugstore. I love me some drugstore products!
15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you’re getting dressed?
Usually when I’m getting dressed. I tend to have an idea in my head depending on the weather, especially since every day seems to be changing here in So-Cal. Ugh.
16. How often do you change your handbag?
Like once a month. Haha. I am also a purse hoarder, so I like to change it out every so often. But they’re all big and can hold everything in case of the zombie apocalypse. I’ll be ready for’em!
17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?
I’ll go to bed anywhere from 9:30pm to midnight, depending on my schedule the next day. And I’ll wake up anywhere from 4:45 am to 8:00 am.
18. How often or when do you workout?
Next! Just kidding. Rarely, unless the boyfriend and I happen to go hiking on the weekends. I walk plenty during clinicals. Trust me.
19. Left handed or right handed?
20. How tall are you?
5’5″ and 3/4. But I just say 5’6″ ๐Ÿ˜‰
21. Do you speak any foreign languages?
Yeah, no. Ha. And I live with a father who speaks another language! What’s up with that?
22. How many pets do you have?
Well, I have Milo here at my parents house. He likes to hoard food in beds, couches, and laundry. More on that later. Then up at the boyfriends house, where they have 4 big dogs, one of them I consider my own, Chubs. He’s a mix of border collie, lab, German shepherd and a few other things. He’s huge and a big baby at that. I chose him from the litter one of their dogs had and he stuck ๐Ÿ™‚
23. How often are you on Blogger?
Just a few days a week, when I have the time.
24. Do you read comments posted on blogs?
On my own I always do and always try my best to respond as well! Sometimes I like to read comments on other blogs if it’s a post I’m really interested in to see what others have to say on the subject.
25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?
Just a mental list!
26. How did you come up with your blog name?
I was just trying to think of something would let the reader know that this was a variety type of blog, so the word Tidbits just came into my life, which to me means bits and pieces, aka tidbits ๐Ÿ™‚
27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?
For the posts I really put a lot of attention into, I use my Canon Rebel EOS XT. Otherwise, the rest of the pictures are from my iPhone. But the majority of them are from my Canon.
28. How often do you clean your house?
Growing up, it used to be every Friday, but now it’s kind of as needed. We’ll vacuum a few times a week, laundry whenever, clean the kitchen floor about once a week, and so on. In the medical field, we say PRN or as needed ๐Ÿ˜‰ Haha.
29. What’s your favorite color?
Red or a coral peach.
30. Do you swear?
School has made it worse for me… So yes, sometimes. Ha.
31. What are you doing with the rest of your day?
Getting my upper lip waxed for the first time! Haha. It’s part of a promotional gift card I got for the salon where I had my hair done. I figure it’s free so why not? lol! I also have a lot to study for! My first mental health exam is tomorrow! And then I want to finish an assignment that is due Thursday but I want to get it out of the way now ๐Ÿ™‚
Well that was fun! Let me know if you do the tag as well, I’d love to see your answers!
xo, Briana
